Fleetwood Museum Talks Programme 2017
Wednesday afternoons at 14.00. Free street parking available. The museum Coffee House will be open from 10.30am-2.30pm.
May 3rd: Heather Davis-Counting Culture, Conservation in Action-work on important Lancashire artefacts.
June 7th: Dick Gillingham, The ‘Pub’, the great British Institution- with games, music and more at the heart of communities. The talk focuses on the history, stories and architecture of some our best British Pubs.
July 5th: Shirley Matthews, Funland by the Foam-sheds light on the heyday of post war Blackpool. Shirley Williams is a tour guide and heritage champion for Blackpool.
August 2nd: Jennifer Ray, No Mod Cons- an affectionate look at a hundred years of housework, 1850-1950.
September 6th: David Hoyle, Alfred Thompson’s Missing Glass Slides-an amazing treasure trove of local 19th century views, including Fleetwood.
October 4th: Dr. Michael Winstanley, Markets to Supermarkets- Two hundred years of shopping change.
Volunteer Speakers Afternoon:
November 1st: Stuart Leadbetter, Everything you wanted to know about Ghosts but were afraid to ask. Ron Nickless, Trams and Transport.
Admission to the talks is free but we welcome all donations.
Guided Heritage Walks 2017
Walk begins at 13.30 from the Museum unless otherwise stated.
19th April: Early Fleetwood, 1835-1847- Fleetwood’s Victorian Origins.
17th May: Trains, Trams and Docks-how Fleetwood grew.
21st June: A Midsummer Stroll along the Esplanade
7th July: Walking Treasure Hunt round Old Fleetwood-family event with prizes 18.30pm from museum. This is a fundraiser -£2 per person entry-no charge for children but must be accompanied by an adult.
8th September Memorial Park Heritage Walk, 14.00 start from the Park Pavilion.
29th September: Decimus Burton Commemoration, 13.00 talk in Museum followed by guided walk at 14.00 around Euston Park etc.
The walks are fundraisers for the Museum-donations very welcome.
Friends of Fleetwood Museum Events
Annual membership of the Friends is £6 per person and entitles you to free entry to the museum all season. Tickets for events will be available from Museum reception around 6 weeks before an event is due to take place.
Coffee Mornings A chance to meet and chat, all newcomers made welcome. Enjoy a lovely coffee and some beautiful cakes! On Wednesdays 10.15 am-11.30am: 26th April, 31st May, 28th June, 26th July, 30th August, 27th September, 25th October & 29th November. In 2018- 31st January, 28th February & 28th March. No tickets required for coffee mornings, just come along and join us! Friend’s Annual Dinner. Tickets approximately £20 for three course meal with coffee towards end of January. Date to be arranged.
