Jacinta

Jacinta built 1972 is now fully restored

TAKE A FIRST HAND LOOK AT WHAT CONDITIONS WERE REALLY LIKE

Jacinta is a 615 ton stern trawler which had a crew of 16. The ship is 50 metres long, 9.75 metres wide and needs 6 metres of water to float in. It has a 1633 horsepower diesel engine and travels at 11 nautical miles per hour.

From Easter to November Jacinta is open 7 days a week from 10am to 4pm daily for guided tours.

Fishermen risk their lives in harsh conditions to catch the fish we eat. Jacinta could trawl up to 3.5 million fish fingers in 10 days. Volunteers have restored the ship so you can see what it was like to be a deep-sea fisherman.

Jacintas Wheelhouse

Visit the wheelhouse, chart room and radio room. (That's my son Daniel.)

See the cabins where the crew lived - when they weren't working 18 hours a day.

Fishermen ate lots of fish. See the galley where the cook made the meals.

Jacintas Fish hold

Once packed with fish and ice, the hold is now a museum and function room. Browse in the museum area that was once the giant fish hold.

Find out how the fishing gear was operated in all weathers.
