Attention Fleetwood residents! Our beach craft needs you! Help us to produce a special piece of community art this summer at Fleetwood beach! On Saturday 20th August at 11am we will be on the beach by Marine Hall, getting crafty and creating a temporary artwork celebrating a famous Fleetwood landmark. We need local families and residents to take part!

The craft session is being delivered by Fleetwood Museum in partnership with Healthier Fleetwood and Fleetwood Wellbeing Way. It follows our first successful attempt last summer where almost 50 people helped to create an amazing lighthouse artwork.

Museum volunteer Angela Hesketh is the brains behind the craft session – ‘last year with covid guidelines the museum was unable to put on its usual craft sessions inside the museum – so we did it on the beach instead! We really didn’t know how it was going to go or if anyone would turn up!”

Over the course of 2 hours, dozens of families helped to create the temporary artwork – which was washed away by the next incoming tide. A drone captured the process and also the final artwork – which was best seen from above because of it’s size!

Angela adds: “last year we were blown away by the number of people who took part – we want to get even more people involved this year!”

And the subject of this year’s artwork! The Mount!

Ben Whittaker, Manager at Fleetwood Museum is looking forward to another great day: “It was a wonderful day last year and we can’t wait for our second beach craft event! The Mount is one of Fleetwood’s architectural gems, and it probably has not been recreated like this before! We hope that lots of local people will pop down to get some fresh air, enjoy Fleetwood’s beautiful beach, and help us to create a unique and fleeting piece of community art”.

The craft session will take place on Fleetwood Beach at 11am, behind Marine Hall on Saturday 20th August. No need to book just turn up!
